Maria Elisa Gomez
Maria Elisa is a multidisciplinary artist born in a small town in the Colombian Amazon and based in Europe, where she has lived in London and Barcelona for half her life. After many years of freelance work and all sorts of creative endeavours, in 2018 she finally decided to go to university to pursue a BFA, which she is currently halfway through at the University of Barcelona. Her work revolves around identity, migration, political activism, power structures, manifestos, and intuitive practices, and is allowed to come through in whatever form or shape it might demand to do so: performance, sculpture, sound installation, video, photography, painting, drawing, embroidery, pottery, writing or collective action are part of her arsenal. Her own personal pantheon includes artists such as Tania Bruguera, Louise Bourgeois, Tracey Emin, Victoria Santa Cruz, Violeta Parra, Kara Walker, Faith Ringgold, Ana Mendieta, Adrian Piper or Doris Salcedo.
